Halal Packaging: It's Not Just About the Food Inside
You sourced Halal coffee beans. You have a Halal kitchen. But if you serve it in a cup lined with non-Halal animal-derived stearates, you have a problem.

In Malaysia, the Halal economy is massive. But many business owners misunderstand the scope of Halal. They think it only applies to the ingredients—the chicken, the beef, the gelatin. As a Halal consultant working with JAKIM applicants, I often have to deliver bad news: "Your product is Halal, but your packaging is Syubhah (doubtful)."
For corporate gifting, this is critical. If you are a bank giving out 10,000 water bottles for Hari Raya, and those bottles have a lining derived from non-Halal animal fats, you are not just wasting money; you are offending your core demographic.
The Hidden "Non-Halal" Ingredients in Plastic
Plastic and rubber parts (like the O-ring seal in a tumbler lid) often use additives called "slip agents" or "release agents" during manufacturing. Common ones include Calcium Stearate or Stearic Acid.
The Problem: Stearic acid can be derived from plant oil (Palm Oil - Halal) or animal fat (Beef/Pork Tallow - Non-Halal).
The Risk: Unless the manufacturer certifies the source, JAKIM considers it doubtful. If you can't prove it's plant-based, you can't get the Halal logo on your final product assembly.
JAKIM's Requirement for Food Contact Materials
According to MS 1500:2019 (and the upcoming 2025 revisions), any material that comes into direct contact with Halal food must be:
1. Free from Najis (impurities).
2. Safe for human health (Toyyiban).
3. Produced in a facility that does not process pork products.
This is why "Bone China" mugs are tricky. Traditional Bone China contains... well, bone ash. Usually from cows. If those cows weren't slaughtered according to Islamic rites, the mug itself is technically non-Halal. For a Muslim consumer, drinking from it is problematic.
The DrinkWorks Solution: Sertu-Ready Supply Chain
We understand the local sensitivity. That is why our premium stainless steel line is the safest bet for the Malaysian market.
1. Material Purity: 304 Stainless Steel is inorganic. It has no animal derivatives. It is inherently Halal-friendly.
2. Silicone Seals: We specify 100% food-grade silicone, cured with platinum, not animal-based stearates.
3. Supply Chain Hygiene: Our warehousing in Shah Alam follows strict segregation protocols. We don't store pet food or alcohol products in the same facility as our drinkware.
When you gift a DrinkWorks bottle, you are gifting peace of mind. You don't need to worry if the recipient will check the bottom of the cup for a "Bone China" stamp. It is a universally acceptable, culturally respectful gift for every Malaysian.
